Abstract

ABSTRACT
Background: Root canal treatment aims to remove necrotic pulp tissue, biofilms, and debris from the root canal system. However, there are some obstacles in optimally disinfecting the root canal so that root canal treatment failures can occur. One of the most common bacteria causing root canal treatment failure is Enterococcus faecalis.
Effective application of intracanal medicament is necessary to disinfect the recurring treatment of root canal. Curcuma longa or known as turmeric, has the potential to inhibit the growth of Enterococcus faecalis because it has antibacterial properties like curcumin and essential oils. Purpose: Describing potential of anti bacterial of Curuma longa as intracanal medicament ingredient for recurring treatment of root canal. Methods: References are obtained from journals, textbooks and websites accessed through Google Scholar, Science Direct and PubMed. The types of references taken are in the form of research reports, and literature studies published from 2012–2021. Conclusion: Curcuma longa has the potential to be used as an intracanal medicament in retreatment of root canal and it’s effective in eliminating Enterococcus faecalis bacteria because it contains curcuminoids and essential oils. Curcuma longa is
more effective than other herbal materials, although it is not as effective as non-herbal materials.
