Abstract

This study aims to examine the educational communication model implemented in the Geopark Goes to School program at a junior high school located in the Karangsambung geopark area. The research focuses on understanding how communication processes support geological literacy, environmental awareness, and student engagement in school-based conservation education. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed to explore the dynamics of communication practices in their natural context. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with facilitators, teachers, and students, and documentation of learning activities. The analysis was guided by the source, message, channel, and receiver communication framework to identify the interaction among communication components in the program. The findings indicate that the educational communication model is participatory and contextual, characterized by interactive delivery methods, the use of visual and cultural learning media, and active student involvement. The integration of local cultural elements enhances message comprehension and fosters emotional engagement with conservation values. However, several challenges remain, including limited instructional time, variations in facilitator capacity, and unequal availability of learning facilities. This study contributes to the development of educational communication studies by proposing a contextual and culture-based communication model that can strengthen environmental literacy and student participation in conservation oriented learning.
